Beasiswa Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (Developing Country Partnership Scholarships), popularly known as KNB Scholarship, is a scholarship awarded to applicants coming from developing countries offered by the government of the Republic of Indonesia, mainly for Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degree. The scholarship, which is administered by the Ministry of Education and Culture's Directorate General of Higher Education, has been awarded to 1,290 students from 94 countries since 2008.

The KNB Scholarship has played a critical role in assisting Indonesian higher education institutions in their internationalization efforts. The number of scholarships offered each year has continued to rise in order to meet the growing number of applications from all over the world. The scholarship is also working to strengthen its links with reputable public and private universities across the country. Through this, the scholarship has helped Indonesian higher education institutions improve their quality in order to achieve the requirements of internationally renowned universities.

Sundas, a foreign student from Pakistan and recipient of the KNB scholarship, had great things to say about the scholarship. "Applying is super easy, the documents aren't really complicated," said Sundas on how simple the application process is. She also mentioned that information regarding the scholarship is readily available online. Sundas chose UGM due to the university's performance and the culture of Indonesia, stating that the latter is similar to her native country's (Pakistan) culture. She happily talked about how she enjoyed Indonesian culture. She was pleased with things ranging from the people to the cuisine.

Sundas encourages anyone interested to apply for the KNB scholarship as it was "a life changing and long lasting experience" for her. She said that applicants shouldn't worry about the language barrier as the Indonesian language is relatively simple to pick up. She also advised future recipients to explore the country as Indonesia is one of the most diverse countries in terms of culture, people, and education.

GMIF

The Gadjah Mada International Fellowship (GMIF) program is a fellowship program offered by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to international students from ASEAN member nations (except Indonesia), South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, and other countries who can demonstrate financial need.

This program focuses on full-time, dual-degree Master's and Doctoral degrees through coursework and research. The goal of the GMIF program is to promote outstanding academic performers who want to pursue a Master's or Doctoral degree in any relevant and agreed-upon topic. Researchers, politicians, and professionals with specific expertise will be given priority in the application.

Leandro, a Columbian student and the recipient of the GMIF scholarship, shared his experiences with the scholarship. Leandro chose UGM after hearing about the university from a friend. He discovered the scholarship after browsing UGM's website, specifically in the funded section. Leandro had three things in mind when choosing universities which are the quality of education, being in a country that can help him enter the network of countries in OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries), and having to speak a foreign language. During his study, Leandro joined programs hosted by OIA in which he enjoyed. "Even with the limitations of the pandemic, I can still enjoy the culture of Indonesia," answered Leandro about his experience in Indonesia.

For anyone interested in applying for the GMIF scholarship, Leandro recommends having a good mix of common sense, ability to organize, passion, and having ideas. "In interviews you need to stress what you want; if you have any ideas for research then you must study in advance," said Leandro. Having these traits in mind can help any of us when planning to apply for any scholarships.
