Campus Life
As one of the leading universities in Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada aims to promote excellence in educational activities, research, and community service with the interest of the Indonesian society and to participate in Indonesian socio-cultural development. In order to do so, UGM equips the students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their chosen career in a competitive global market.
Facilities
UGM continually provides and improves facilities that can accommodate the interests of the academic community, including academic, personal, financial, and practical needs.
Once enrolled in UGM, every student will be equipped with a Wi-Fi account and student ID card as a mandatory identification requirement to access all facilities offered. UGM students and its academic community then can access a wide variety of facilities offered by the campus, such as the library (both main library and faculty libraries), study spaces, cafeteria, campus bikes and bus, medical centers, religious and worship centers, and a public park.
The facilities spread across the campus will ensure that the academic community of UGM can carry out their activities well in terms of connection and independent learning.
Accommodation
Preserving the best environment to achieve the best academic achievement, UGM provides comfortable on-campus accommodations. The on-campus dormitories are designed to provide a secure and vibrant living environment for students.
Managed by UGM Residence, the on-campus dormitory can accommodate more than 2000 students across 8 housing units. Find out more about UGM’s on-campus accommodation in our Housing page.
While the dormitories are mostly used by students, UGM also provides another type of accommodation for university guests and members of the public: Hotel MM UGM, University Club Hotel, and Wisma Kagama UGM. Equipped with a wide range of facilities from meeting rooms to restaurants, these hotels ensure a comfortable stay for the guests.
Student Activities
Beyond the classrooms, UGM students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities by joining various student clubs (called Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa or Student Activity Unit) across the campus, ranging from sports clubs like badminton, football, or e-sports, to academic clubs such as debating and research clubs.
Aside from extracurricular activities, one of UGM’s flagship programs is the Student Community Service and Community Empowerment Learning (SCS-CEL), also known as Kuliah Kerja Nyata - Pembelajaran Pengabdian Masyarakat (KKN-PPM). This is a mandatory program for UGM undergraduate students, intending to create an equality in social welfare throughout Indonesia.
SCS-CEL takes students on an incredible journey across Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke. Participants gain firsthand experience of the country’s rich diversity in ethnicities, cultures, languages, landscapes, and biodiversity. By living and working in these varied environments, students gain invaluable insights into the multifaceted nature of Indonesian life.
Campus Culture
Students enrolled in UGM come from all provinces and cities in Indonesia, as well as overseas countries and regions in the world. Therefore, cultural diversity has been integrated and existed in harmony with UGM’s identity. Preserving the traditional way of life for every region in Indonesia, UGM shows you a mini Indonesia along with their customs, traditions, interactions and communications style.
