Darmasiswa Scholarship Program is a scholarship program offered by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia to all foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relations with Indonesia.
Started in 1972 as part of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) initiative, the program was then extended in 1976 to students from countries outside ASEAN such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and the USA.
The scholarship aims to promote and increase the interest in the language and culture of Indonesia amongst the youth of other countries. It has also been designed to provide stronger cultural links and understanding between participating countries.
