Beasiswa Kemitraan Negara Berkembang, popularly known as KNB Scholarship, is a prestigious scholarship program offered by the government of the Republic of Indonesia to selected applicants originating from developing countries. Managed by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, the scholarship has been disbursed since 2006 to 1,608 recipients from 97 countries.
The role of KNB Scholarship has been central in supporting Indonesian higher education institutions in their endeavor for internationalization. The number of international students is indicative of the global visibility of higher education institutions. In support of Indonesian universities’ internationalization and to accommodate the increasing interest from applicants all around the world, the number of scholarships being awarded every year has continued to grow.
The scholarship has also been continuing to expand its partnership with reputable public and private universities in the country. In doing so, the scholarship has been sustaining the quality improvement of Indonesian higher education institutions in order to meet the standards of internationally reputable universities.
In Universitas Gadjah Mada, this scholarship is offered to international students coming from the region mentioned above to study in the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Bahasa Indonesia taught.

All application process is conducted online through the KNB Scholarship website https://knb.kemdikbud.go.id.
PROCEDURES
- Visit KNB Scholarship website (https://knb.kemdikbud.go.id)
- Download the Invitation Letter from the KNB Scholarship website;
- Submit the Invitation letter, curriculum vitae, valid Passport (personal data page only), Academic Certificates (in English), Academic Transcripts (in English), TOEFL or IELTS score certificate (or other English Proficiency test) obtained within the last 2 years, motivation letter, dissertation proposal and academic references from the potential research supervisor from Indonesian University (for Doctorate program), to the Indonesian Embassy or Indonesian Consulate to acquire the recommendation; letter;
- Complete the online application process;
- Selection Process
- The Selection Results will be broadcasted online through the KNB Scholarship Website and officially announced through the Indonesian Embassy publication network.
During the application process, please pay close to some important information below:
- We strongly suggest you collect as much information as possible on the universities and your desired study program. Please be advised that once you are admitted, changing either the universities or your study program is strictly prohibited.
- The recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy is mandatory. The recommendation letter will be issued based on verification and necessary background and/or security checks conducted by the Indonesian Embassy. In case of no Indonesian official representative in your country, you need to obtain a letter from any Indonesian Embassy accredited to your country.
- All the required documents have to be written or officially translated Into English.
- The participants from English-speaking countries are not automatically excluded from the requirement to aach written proof of their English proficiency.
- The universities will be conducting the selection process that should include (if necessary) online interviews with the potential candidates.
- Please be advised that the KNB Scholarship is calculated to support the KNB Student costs only. There is no provision for dependents. KNB Students are advised not to bring dependents to Indonesia. The KNB Scholarship provides no financial or pastoral support for dependants and will not endorse the visa applications of, nor provide travel for, dependants.
- The duration of scholarship is exclusively correlated to the duration of the academic program as indicated below:

Note: Other expenses beside above menoned items will be considered as personal expenses and will be borne by the students.
SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE & DURATION
- A Settlement allowance of IDR 1.500.000 will be given to new students upon their arrival in Indonesia;
- While taking the Indonesian language course and prepatory programs, the new students will only receive living allowance and book allowance that will be distributed monthly;
- During the Academic Program, the KNB students will receive monthly allowance that consist of living allowance and research and book allowance;
- A health insurance with a maximum of IDR 400.000 monthly premium (In case of the cost of medical services exceeded to those covered by the health insurance, the difference should be borne by the students);
- A round-trip international airfare (economy class) from the international airport of the student;s home countries to Indonesia, including local transport to the host university;
SCHEDULE
- The online application process must be completed no later than February 18th, 2023.
- Academic Selection in UGM on 13 March 2023 – 12 May 2023
- The selection result will be announced on the 1st week of June 2023.
- The confirmation deadline is on July 23rd, 2023.
- The new KNB awardees are expected to arrive in Jakarta on the second week July, 2023.
